Prevention Program for College Students

Alcohol101+ is a cost-free, digital alcohol education program designed for colleges, universities, and youth-serving organizations. Built specifically for college-age students, the program equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to make informed, responsible decisions about alcohol—including the choice not to drink.

Program Goals

Alcohol101+ supports campus prevention efforts by helping students:

  • Increase awareness of the risks and consequences associated with binge drinking.
  • Strengthen their intention to make safer, healthier choices.
  • Reduce high-risk drinking behaviors.
  • Build empathy and recognize how personal decisions about alcohol affect others.

How the Program Works

Alcohol101+ is a self-guided, interactive learning experience. Students explore core alcohol education topics and apply what they learn through simulations, decision-making activities, and personalized scenarios. At the end of the program, each student receives individualized feedback and tailored recommendations based on their responses, experiences, and perceptions of alcohol use.

For students under 21, Alcohol101+ reinforces that alcohol consumption is both illegal and harmful to their development.

Program Development

Alcohol101+, launched in fall 2021 by Responsibility.org as a modernized version of the award-winning Alcohol 101 and Alcohol 101 Plus programs widely used in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Grounded in the Transtheoretical Model of behavior changes (Stages of Change), the updated program was developed with guidance from leading experts in college.

This evidence-based framework recognizes that students are at different points in their readiness to change behavior. Alcohol101+ delivers content and feedback tailored to each student’s stage of change, creating a more personalized and impactful learning experience. The program features updated, fast-paced, interactive content that resonates with today’s college students while maintaining the strong educational foundation of earlier versions.

Alcohol101+ was developed under the advisement of a group of experts in the field of prevention on college campuses. This working group consisted of the following individuals:
